Mike Newell

Mike Newell serves as Investment Director and Investment Advisor Representative at Retire Smart NM, where he leads the firm's investment strategy for both individual and institutional clients. With nearly 30 years of experience in financial services, Mike brings a disciplined, process-driven approach to portfolio management and retirement income planning.

Mike is responsible for designing and overseeing portfolio strategies focused on long-term growth, risk management, and retirement income. He works closely with clients to implement disciplined investment approaches — including hedging strategies designed to help manage volatility and protect portfolios during changing market conditions.

In addition to his portfolio management responsibilities, Mike regularly presents educational workshops on retirement income planning and investment fundamentals, helping New Mexico families better understand how to align their investments with their long-term financial goals.

Mike began his investment career in 1997 with Merrill Lynch in Northern New Jersey and later managed a USAA Financial Services office in New York. Prior to joining MetLife, he was a partner in a private retirement planning firm focused on investment and income strategies. He holds Series 7 and Series 66 licenses and is insurance licensed, enabling him to provide comprehensive investment, advisory, and insurance guidance.

Before entering financial services, Mike served as an officer in the United States Army, holding leadership positions around the world. His West Point education and military background continue to shape his structured, disciplined approach to investment management — an approach his clients have come to rely on through every market cycle.

Mike is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and holds an MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

He lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his wife, Dale, and remains active in the local community.
